Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California Statement on Climate Superfund Bill
The Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California today celebrates the leadership of Assemblymember Dawn Addis and Senator Caroline Menjivar for making the voices of Californians heard as we stand together against Big Oil’s decades of pollution and deception.
Climate activists today at the State Capitol cheered when they heard the news that the hard work of Addis and Menjivar successfully elevated the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Bill into legislative budget discussions as our state confronts a major revenue shortfall - partially due to the climate pollution crisis. The Polluters Pay policy would recover the tens of billions of dollars owed to California from climate polluters and make them pay their fair share of the harm they’ve caused to California.
Communities across California — especially low-income communities and communities of color — have already paid the price for Big Oil’s pollution, from catastrophic wildfires and deadly flooding to rising health care costs from respiratory disease, heart disease, and cancer. Californians have paid with our wallets, our health, and our lives.
Our fight and resolve continue as we work to make polluters pay for the devastation they have caused and deliver justice to the people of California.
