SACRAMENTO – Today the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California announced an endorsement from the Coalition for Clean Air (CCA), as supporters continue to grow for the referendum campaign that will “uphold” historic law (SB1137) preventing toxic oil drilling near schools, hospitals, and neighborhoods.

Campaign endorsers include public health groups, community and faith organizations, and environmental justice leaders from across California, working to hold oil companies accountable for creating a public health crisis, especially for communities of color.

“Nearly every Californian breathes air that fails air quality standards, putting their health and their lives at risk,” said Christopher Chavez, Deputy Policy Director, Coalition for Clean Air. “That risk is even higher for the nearly three million Californians that live near oil and gas wells due to increased exposure to carcinogenic and health-harming pollution. Establishing a safety barrier between people and oil wells is common sense; but Big Oil is trying to buy your vote so they can continue drilling under homes, schools, and parks. Don’t fall for Big Oil’s big bucks and take a stand for your health – vote to uphold the safety barrier between oil and gas wells and you.”

CCA was founded in 1971 and is California’s only statewide organization working exclusively on air quality issues.
